Classic apple pie with plain white flour, salt, butter (unsalted), water, bramley apple(s), cinnamon, unrefined golden caster sugar, milk. To make this classic apple pie for 8 persons you will need 45 mins for preparation and 30 mins for baking.

  • 1tsp Cinnamon
  • 1tbsp Unrefined golden caster sugar

For the glaze


  1. Step 1Preheat the oven to 200°C (fan 180°C, gas mark 6) and lightly grease an 8” pie dish with butter.
  2. Step 2Sieve the flour and salt into a bowl and rub in the butter until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.

  3. Step 3Add the cold water and use a knife to mix together, then use your hands to bring it together. Divide into 2 halves.

  4. Step 4Roll out one half into a disc large enough to line the pie dish then place into the dish lightly pressing into the corners.
  5. Step 5Place the apple in a bowl and add the cinnamon and caster sugar stirring to coat the apple chunks, place this into the pie dish.

  6. Step 6Roll out the remaining half of pastry into a disc large enough to cover the pie dish. Moisten the edges with some water then lay the lid on top, lightly press the edges to join the base and lid, then trim any excess with a sharp knife. Pinch the edges of the pie all the way around.
  7. Step 7Lightly brush the surface with a little milk then sprinkle over some golden caster sugar. Place in the oven to bake for 20-30 minutes, then bring out to serve.
