  • 4 tsps. baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 cups sugar, divided
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tsps. grated lemon peel
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 8 large egg whites

Stir sugar and water 1 minute (mixture will bubble vigorously), then stir in:

  • 2 1/2 tbsps. dark rum
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

  1. Step 1 Blend flour and salt in processor. Add butter; using on/off turns, cut in until mixture resembles coarse meal.
