Make-your-own salad with lemon garlic dressing with bunch broccoli, hearts of romaine, carrots, red onion, can anchovy fillets.


For dressing



  • 8 large eggs, separated
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. coarse salt
  • 6 ripe bananas, peeled, thinly sliced
  • Fresh mint sprigs
  • Lemon twists
  • Additional banana slices

Spicy Sabayon Sauce

  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup dry white wine
  • 2 tbsps. sugar
  • 1/8 tsp. chile powder

For Serving


Make dressing:

  1. Step 1 Mince garlic and mash to a paste with salt. In a bowl whisk together garlic paste, lemon juice, vinegar, zest, and pepper and whisk in oil until emulsified.

  2. Step 2 Cut 1-inch flowerets from broccoli, reserving remainder for another use. Separate romaine into leaves.

  3. Step 3 Have ready a large bowl of ice and cold water. In a large saucepan of boiling salted water cook broccoli until crisp-tender, about 3 minutes, and drain in a colander.

  4. Step 4 Peel carrots and with a mandoline or other manual slicer or in a food processor finely shred. Halve onion lengthwise and slice very thin crosswise.

  5. Step 5 Arrange vegetables and anchovies decoratively on platters and in serving bowls and pour dressing into a cruet.
