Quick apple tart with sheet frozen puff pastry , thawed, medium golden delicious apples, peeled, cored, very thinly sliced, unsalted butter, melted, cinnamon sugar, apricot jam, melted.


  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry , thawed
  • 3 medium Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, very thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsps. unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 tbsps. cinnamon sugar
  • 1/4 cup apricot jam, melted

For pastry

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 stick cold unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 2 tbsps. cold vegetable shortening
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 to 4 tbsps. ice water

For filling

  • Special equipment: a pastry or bench scraper; a 9-inch glass or ceramic deep-dish pie plate; pie weights or raw rice

For cream:

Raspberry 2 12-ounce bags frozen unsweetened raspberries, thawed 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 cup raspberry jam

To Decorate

  • 8 yards colorfast silk ribbons

For assembly


  1. Step 1 Preheat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper. Unfold pastry on parchment paper.

  2. Step 2 Using tines of fork, pierce 1/2-inch border around edge of pastry, then pierce center all over. Arrange apples atop pastry in 4 rows, overlapping apple slices and leaving border clear.
